As we saw in the previous post, Winsor and Newton watercolours are one of the best brands. Today we analyse Cotman set of 12 colours, one serie of watercolours winsor. Suitable for travels, it has everything you need. We started.
Watercolours Winsor and Newton: Cotman set
The Cotman set is one of the most compact in the market. This kit of 12 godets is the one of smaller size. Lightweight and versatile, it is so small that it fits in the pocket of any shirt. You will always be prepared if your inspiration assaults you.
The set of these Winsor and Newton watercolours is made of rigid white plastic. It resists without problems the blows and the touch of its surface is pleasant. The closure is simple but firm, which prevents us from losing the godets.
Inside the box there are 12 godets of the following colours:
- Lemon yellow tone
- Intense blue (blue phthalate)
- Yellow Cadmium Tone
- Shadowed earth
- Pale red cadmium tone
- Bladder green
- Carmesí Alizaria
- Toasted Sienna
- Viridian tint
- Overseas
- Yellow ocher
- China White
It also has a small folding brush. It is not very comfortable to use, so you should buy another. You can easily find them in any art store.
It should be noted that it is a kit that collects a wide range of colours, including the ones most commonly used. China’s white is perhaps the only one that is not intense enough. Even so it would serve to cover other colours and make paler mixes. The Cotman range of Winsor and Newton watercolours are intended for amateur or semi-professional artists. The pigments used are not the strongest, but their low price makes these watercolours a good choice for travellers and beginners.
Analysis of watercolours
We have tried them and we like the result. The quality may not be the best, but it is still high. The colour flows according to the amount of water supplied by the brush, so we can easily control the dispersion of the pigments. With little water, we get long strokes with a fairly regular colour. They are still paler colours than the upper range, but they are excellent to start in the world of watercolours.
There are versions of Cotman kits with more colours, but their size is not so comfortable. With the 12 colours we cover most possible works. The inside of the lid is designed to make the blends, offering three separate compartments.
In short, we are in front of one of the best watercolour sets. Light and resistant, it is a product that will delight the most traveling artists. In addition, it presents one of the assortments of more balanced colours, covering most needs.
The kit of watercolours Winsor and Newton Cotman of 12 media godets is cost 14€. Its excellent value makes this kit encourage us to lose the fear to try the watercolours. With it we can improve our technique or look for new spaces to inspire us and start painting without having to worry about making a big investment.
