If a few days ago we talked about Camden or Old Spitalfields Market, today we present Mercantic. It is one of the most spectacular vintage markets in Barcelona. Located in the city of Sant Cugat del Vallés, it is undoubtedly one of the best places to buy, sell and be inspired.
Mercantic: a different antique market
Opened in 1992, Mercantic is a huge market with artisans, antique dealers and sellers of all kinds of products. To date, more than 15.000m2 are distributed among 250 shops, as well as parks, squares, streets and restaurants. In addition, it is located in an exceptional space: a ceramic factory from the 50’s. It has an industrial style with a lot of character in most rooms and buildings. Mercantic is a complex with several buildings, each with its own shops distributed in organized chaos.
Most of the stands are intended for sale of antiques, but we also find complementary businesses. For example, there are several restoration workshops for both professionals and amateurs. There are other services such as woodworkers, blacksmiths craftsmen and buying and selling companies.
It is also a creative space, where there are exhibitions or workshops of different subjects. It is also a food-maket. Around the center of the facilities are grouped various places and restaurants for all tastes and pockets.
Some Mercantic shops you can not miss
We present some shops that we can find in Mercantic. They are a sample that captures and transmits that vintage spirit so characteristic of this market:
- The Forge of Martí Manyà (C16). They offer us the opportunity to learn how to use the forge. Thus, they offer learning courses on Saturday mornings, open to anyone who is interested. It should be noted that they are specialists in the work of wrought iron, with a long experience, so we can contract services of construction and design of parts and metal structures. They have a precious catalogue of works.
- CREA, DECORA, RECICLA (NC36). It’s a space dedicated to Chalk Paint painting. In this shop-workshop located in one of the main buildings you will find everything you need to use it. They offer workshops to improve our technique and are open to resolve any doubts.
